Martha and Lindsay

Lindsay Sears and her sorrel mare Martha won Cheyenne Frontier Days to haul home a huge assortment of trophies, including a saddle, buckle, spurs, a bootjack, jacket and gift certificates plus $11,235.

Sears has now won three of the year’s five highest paying rodeos; Calgary, Houston and Cheyenne and finished second at San Antonio. The fifth, the Wrangler Tour championship at Dallas, takes place in November.

The four she did place at paid a total of $202,164. Of that, $113,500 came at Calgary, which doesn’t count in the World standings.

If she qualifies for both the $1.4 million Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton and the $550,000 Wrangler Tour showdown at Dallas – which overlap on the second weekend of November, Sears forecasts she’ll run in Dallas.

“That will probably be my choice if I’m lucky enough to qualify, only because the money there counts toward the World standings,” she said. “A World championship is my goal.”
