REATA LONG THROW

Ron Boston, who rides for the Stump Lake Ranch, won the Reata Long Throw Competition at the O'Keefe Ranch Cowboy Festival with a record-setting 55-foot throw. Ron had earlier reached the end of his rope, and in the true spirit of the event, the other cowboys pitched in and tied ropes together so he could keep going.

Dave and Tammy Longworth of the Longworth Ranch of Merritt, B.C. have sponsored the event from the beginning, recognizing the significant historical ties to the vaquero past for a skill that is still used today in the wild backcountry of the massive B.C. ranches.

"I think we might have to order longer ropes for next year," Dave said.
