New Talent Teams With Legendary Producers

Nineteen-year-old singer/guitarist Aaron Goodvin of Edmonton is enjoying a whirlwind of career boosts. He recently jetted off to Austin, Texas for the regional finals of the Nashville Star series, which, unlike its pop-music counterpart, Nashville Star focuses on each performers ability to write and perform original music.

He's enjoying a bit of a break before heading down to Nashville to team up with legendary record producer, Miles Wilkinson, to produce a four-song extended play CD. Wilkinson has produced and performed with such stars as Anne Murray and Emmylou Harris.

Miles said in a recent interview with Canadian Cowboy Country that he first saw Aaron perform in Edmonton. "It was a crowded bar and people weren't paying attention to what was happening on the stage. Then Aaron got up there and the place went quiet. Everyone was focused on him. I was intrigued."

Several months later, Wilkinson joined Aaron and his band on stage and as he said, "The same thing happened again. When you see him on stage, he just feels and looks like a star."

Aaron has also been invited to take part in some songwriting sessions while in Nashville. "It's a real cross section of writers, some are struggling while others are very established," said Wilkinson.

Aaron's new extended play CD will be available around the end of March. You can visit his website at www.aarongoodvin.com.

Saskatchewan ruled the CFR!

November 12, 2004, Christa Lawrence, Miss Rodeo Canada 2005, made history by becoming the first delegate from Saskatchewan to be crowned Miss Rodeo Canada.

The contestants were judged in Public Speaking, Horsemanship, Modeling, Personal Interviews and a Written Horsemanship and Rodeo Knowledge exam.

Christa was Miss Rodeo Maple Creek 2003 and is delighted to represent her hometown. She grew up on her family's historic cattle ranch (see Dec/Jan 2004 issue of Canadian Cowboy) where appreciation of the cowboy way of life and its western values has defined her as the woman she is today.

Eighteen-year-old Christa is a recent high school graduate and a former member of the Saskatchewan High School Rodeo All Star team. In 2004, Christa was honored to be named the Cowgirl of the Year.

As the first lady of Canadian Professional Rodeo, Christa will travel extensively throughout Western Canada and into the United States as the ambassador for the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association. She was thrilled and excited to make her first official appearance in her home province at the Regina Agribition.
