Who's Hot

Tom Reardon’s Back in the Saddle Again

On the morning of February 6, 2008 writer, rodeo historian and chairman of the Maple Creek Pro Rodeo, Tom Reardon, was lighting his propane-fuelled furnace in his rented house when it exploded. He somehow managed to escape before it burned to the ground.

After assessment, he was transferred to the Regina General Hospital Burn Unit. Reardon suffered second-degree burns to 20% of his body; mainly his face and hands, and he is recovering nicely. In fact, his physician and the nurses call his rapid recovery and lack of pain “a miracle.”

Besides losing all of his working cowboy gear, including his custom saddle and his prized arrowhead collection, Reardon commented, “What bothers me is that I spent twelve bucks on a haircut last week, but now I literally qualify for Who’s Hot!” Emceed by seven-time Rodeo Announcer of the Year, Joe Braniff, the community of Maple Creek hosted a rodeo star-studded fundraiser for Tom on the evening of February 22 at the Maple Creek Arena, following the annual Battle of the Little Big Puck charity hockey game, raising a staggering $25,000.

Everyone at Canadian Cowboy Country magazine and Cowboy Country Television wishes our friend Tom a speedy recovery.
