Canadian Cowboy Country writer launches first fiction work!

Tyler Trafford celebrates his first novel “The Story of Blue Eye”

By now, many of you are familiar with the terrific work of writer Tyler Trafford that appears regularly in Canadian Cowboy Country. He captures each story with an effortless and easy-to-read style. Now you can enjoy Tyler’s fiction, as he introduces his first novel in the trilogy, Sun on the Mountains. The Story of Blue Eye, the first novel in the series, is unique through its Canadian settings, Quaker philosophy, Piikani First Nations profile, and its economic analysis of the Great Plains Horse Culture. It parallels the traditional Western, as seen in the work of A.B. Guthrie and Jack Schaefer, while reflecting the more contemporary Western fiction of writers like Larry McMurtry (Lonesome Dove), Nicholas Evans, and Cormac McCarthy. The official launch for Tyler’s book will be held in the McIllery Room at Fort Calgary on April 22 at 7:30 pm. Published by Thistledown Press in Saskatoon, SK, The Story of Blue Eye will be available in major bookstores throughout Canada and some US outlets. Rollyview’s Big Night Of Little Country a Success

Local residents found it hard to sit on their hands with these future country stars! Brett Kissell, Leah Durelle and The Vissia Sisters braved the cold weather and entertained close to 200 people at the Rollyview, AB Community Hall on January 31, 2004. These accomplished young performers entertained both individually and as a group, earning a well-deserved standing ovation from those in attendance. The Hall was in serious danger of closing, but thanks to a new executive with creative new ideas and boundless energy, it is being given a second chance. CPRA welcomes new President Bob Robinson back for his third go-round!

Congratulations are in order for Millet, AB’s Bob Robinson. This well-respected cowboy is back in the saddle for a third go-round as C.P.R.A. president. Robinson, a former pro cowboy and now a sales professional with MWG Apparel and Western Rawhide, was given the presidential nod in the recent C.P.R.A. election, replacing Greg Cassidy. Rodeo has been Robinson’s life for 50 years, on both sides of the 49th, and the only job he’s never held in the sport is that of stock contractor.

Despite having been elected in 1973-74 (Canadian Rodeo Cowboys Association) and 1980-81 (C.P.R.A.), Robinson says he appreciates the support shown him once again. “I feel very positive about the whole thing. A president is only as good as the board you work with and I feel I have a good background to get things going.”

Some of Robinson’s other past accomplishments include: Induction into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1997; President of the Canadian Senior Pro Rodeo Association, 1995-97; Executive Secretary, Rodeo Cowboys Association (now P.R.C.A.), 1959-1962; Director, Rodeo Information Commission, Rodeo Cowboys Association Publicity Department, 1962-64; Top 30 saddle bronc and bull riders worldwide, 1955-69; Canadian Saddle Bronc Riding Champion, 1956; Bull Riding Champion, National Finals, 1962; Saddle Bronc Champion, Calgary Stampede, 1956 and N.F.R. qualifier, bull riding, 1962 and 1964.
Robinson was involved in the creation of the C.F.R. in 1974 (while president) and the restructuring of the current C.P.R.A. in 1981 (again, while president).
