Vedder Mountain Memories II
John Geisbrecht and Nena Poljanic

Cowboy Church at last October’s Mane Event Horse Expo in Chilliwack had just concluded. Richard Winters and I had been on our horses for the songs and message and John Giesbrecht walked up while I was still on my buckskin mare, Lucky, with my guitar in hand. We got to talking about horses and then he mentioned that he and Nena Poljanic had just completed a new CD. Billie and I listened to it on the drive home and it was perfect for the trip.
This harmony really works. Nena sings the melody with John singing a tenor and baritone part and the blend is smooth. They dug out some wonderful classic western songs like Don’t Fence Me In, Moonlight on the Colorado, and 160 Acres. There’s a few gems written or recorded by Marty Robbins like Meet Me Tonight in Laredo and The Padre of Old Semitone, There’s eighteen tracks in total, including a few country classics like Walk Through This World With Me and Making Believe. If my memory still works, Kitty Wells had the original hit version and I think Faron Young recorded it a few years later.
Nena and John sing with just a hint of a German accent and it adds to the charm of the album. The instrumentation is just right for these songs. Mike Sanyshyn on fiddle and mandolin, Brian Nicholl on pedal steel, Peter Kilgour on lead guitar, bass and drums with John playing harmonica.
I think the plan was to have this CD available just for their friends and families. There is no contact information on the label but I know it would appeal to anyone who loves these songs and appreciates good harmony.
To order it, try giving John a call at (604) 823-6677.
