All Over The Map

Rob McIver says as the title indicates, this CD spans east to west and it’s a broad-based collection for sure. Of the 10 tracks, there are a couple that will receive consideration for the Spirit of the West playlist. However, some will not. That’s not to say a lot of folks won’t enjoy them though.
My favourite track is a song called Days on the Farm. It’s catchy, well-crafted, has a nice crisp rhythm guitar and keyboard in the accompaniment. Rob has a pleasing baritone voice that really reminds me of the fine Kansas singer Barry Ward.
Rob wrote all the songs and he ranges from earthy songs of rural life to songs of nature like Eagle Soaring and Wild Wind. Some of ones that won’t make the Spirit of the West playlist have a pretty unique quality. I Love You More Than Hockey is one example and track nine is a subtle collection of innuendo and some clever wordsmithing that may not be for all audiences.
Arrangements are by Steve Tanner and the project was recorded at Studio Red Deer by Rob Farion.
