Eaglesfield Percherons Rising From the Ashes

Over three hundred people gathered at the Elkton Hall to raise more than $14,000 at the silent auction and fundraiser held for Brian and Colleen Coleman of Eaglesfield Percherons. On January 5, the Coleman family lost two horse barns and over thirty head of draft and sport horses in training in a horrific fire.

“The support is overwhelming,” Colleen said, “People are so kind.”

Bryn Thiessen contributed cowboy poetry while Chris and Sharky Schauer provided music from their soon-to-be-released CD.

There were horse people from every breed and discipline in attendance, lending support to this young and talented family. The Colemans always show their Percherons at Calgary, and the Stampede donated a number of items personally delivered by the board’s vice-chairman, David Chalack.

Brian says construction will start on a new barn in the spring and they will hold an open house.

The Puck Dropped and Again the Battle Was On!

Maple Creek’s 24th annual Battle of the Little Big Puck (Dec 2005/Jan 2006) hit the national stage on CBC Television. CBC contacted Mayor Anne Weisgerber, and the crew came to town to shoot the battle February 18th for the upcoming Hockeyville competition. The winner will receive $25,000 for arena improvements and host an NHL game.

Lana Waterchief, 2005 Calgary Stampede Indian Princess was presented with a Battle vest by Bobby Maines (Immigrant team). Bobby also won the Best Dressed Cowboy award. Both teams looked great, but no one could match Lana for finery.

In dramatic style, the Immigrants spurred past the Indigenous team 13-12. Jimmy Richards was the goaltender for the Immigrants. Doug and Jill Richards recently purchased the Sweetwater Ranch down by Consul, thereby qualifying Jimmy for a spot on the team.
